Animal
Control
The animal control division consists of one animal control
officer. He is responsible for picking
up stray animals, lost or wounded animals and animal
carcasses. He enforces all laws dealing with animals, such as:
the leash law and ensuring animal's are vaccinated and properly
licensed. Animal control also deals with all calls for unusual
or wild animals. These animals can range from snakes to wild hogs to
bears.
Animal control also maintains an animal shelter that
houses stray or lost animals, until homes can be found for them. The
animal control officer processes the paperwork for adoption for these
animals.
The animal shelter has a website showing available animals
for adoption: www.emporiashelter.petfinder.com.
If you're interested in adopting an animal, please call Animal Control
Officer Joey Turner at 434-634-2121 or 434-634-3609.
