DispatchThe communications center is the vital link between the citizens of Emporia and emergency services. Dispatchers also maintain a constant radio link with police officers on the street and direct needed assistance to the officers and/or provide an information relay. All 911 calls for Emporia/Greensville are routed through Emporia's communications center. The dispatcher then directs the call to the appropriate agency. Personnel assigned to the communications center are responsible for dispatching police, animal control, fire, EMS and at times, state police. The ECC has 8 full time dispatchers. There are 2 dispatchers on duty 24 hours a day. The office is designed for two dispatching and call taker stations. Both stations have computer aided dispatching (CAD) and VCIN (Virginia Criminal Information Network) terminals. All dispatchers receive specialized training and are certified by DCJS. They are also certified by Virginia State Police to operate the VCIN terminals.
