Are you interested in learning more about Law Enforcement?
Are you interested in creating a spirit of friendship and cooperation between
Law Enforcement and the citizens it serves? If your answer is yes, you may

ACADEMY.
The Emporia Police Department's Citizens's Police Academy is a
series of instructional courses presented by the Emporia Police Department to
educate local citizens on the role of law enforcement in today's society.
Citizen's Police Academy has a spring course and a fall
course. Dates will be announced. Any citizen who is age 18 or older should contact
Corporal Stan Allen at the Emporia Police Department at 434-634-2121 for an
application. The following are requirements to be a qualified applicant:

must be a legal resident or property owner in the City of
Emporia
-
18 years of age or older
-
have no felony record or misdemeanor record involving moral
turpitude

Selection of qualified applicants will be on a first-come,

Driving records and criminal histories will be obtained on each applicant.
The first fifteen applicants that qualify will be selected to attend the
CPA. Each applicant accepted will be notified by letter and will be
contacted by phone to determine their intention to attend. This process
will be repeated until fifteen applicants are accepted. Applications who
qualified but were not selected will be held until the next CPA and will be
among those first accepted.
Class Schedule
CPA classes will be held on nine consecutive Thursday
nights. Classes will begin at 6:30 PM and conclude at 9:30 PM. There
will also be two Saturday sessions involving field operations for the
class. Light refreshments will be provided at each evening session.
Each participant will be required to complete a four-hour ride along with a
police officer on patrol. A schedule will be posted in the classroom and
participants will be expected to sign up for a ride-along session.
